This will be an 8 class (13 week) introductory course to montante. We will be looking at basic biomechanics of greatsword wielding with a focus on safely cutting and transitioning between cuts of different angles and types. This incorporates thoughts and patterns seen in the various sources such as Alfieri, Godinho, and Barberan. Alongside basic mechanics, we will introduce examining sources and will begin interpreting the first rules of Barberan, the oldest Spanish montante source.
Due to potential for safety issues this class will be limited to 8 enrollments for individuals without their own swords and an additional 7 for those with their own swords (only spadone/montante/greatswords longsword are not an appropriate tool for this). Due to these concerns, if more than 1 class is missed then participants will no longer be able to take part in the course.
Since we are in November/December/January and various holidays occur, we will be posting a schedule for when this class will not be taking place on a Thursday to make the attendance requirement feasible. If there are questions, please contact Christian Buettner in class or on the MKDF page.
As per usual, this class is limited to those who have completed Maryland KdF's Beginner Class and are fully vaccinated.
